Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0
Nigeria is set to submit its revised NDC 3.0 later this year. Based on the previous NDC submitted to the UNFCCC in 2021, the country requires around $17.7 billion annually to meet its emissions reduction targets. Are the NDC targets realistic and achievable? Are there sectors you would like to see included in the revised NDC 3.0? Share your thoughts.
This is a very key question that we have to answer very frankly. Without key stakeholders, especially at the subnational level actively involved in the preparation and determination of the NDCs, I am not sure we will get right.
At this point in time, majority of our subnational governments do not have a mitigation and adaptation plan which ideally should feed into Federal strategy. In addition, climate financing in many cases requires alignment with the NDCs and NDA.
These are some of my concerns and I think we need to look inward and build local capacities across board to improve our collective understanding of the mission so that we can move forward with purpose and direction.
